Objects of Value
(Miami)
21 Nov 2008 - 22 Feb 2009
Is one man's trash another man's treasure? Objects of Value, at Miami Art Museum, Florida, centres on the rich cultural history of traditionally valuable materials such as diamonds, and on materially "worthless" objects, aiming to show the subjectivity of value.
From a seemingly worthless skateboard to a beautiful piece of art, Objects of Value asks visitors to question whether an object's value is based on its intrinsic qualities or whether is it purely a social construction? For the exhibit, the Miami Art Museum hosts works by artists such as Janine Antoni, Walead Beshty, Dario Escobar, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Tunga and Carey Young.
